Louise Carson: Poem

rap @ 50

you put yourself in purdah

when your downcast gaze

measures access to your dream

by the next permitted footstep

you put yourself in purga-

ga-ga-ga-ga-ga-gatory

when you pluck the petals

from your rosy rose rosary

you do yourself disservice

making work out of leisure

when you take away the pleasure

the laughter from a fumble

whether or not

you believe in this

the random dis

chaosed order’s holiness

or that holy order taken

gives to every breath awakened

purpose, bliss

you better not weaken

from your mission, a path

made from sinuous decision

the road without wrath

isn’t straight

Louise Carson, a member of the Greenwood Poets of Hudson, Quebec, has contributed to Jones Av., Cahoots, Freefall, poetsagainstwar.ca, with work upcoming in The Nashwaak Review and Other Voices.
